kalkıyor...

Shaped by the history of Karaağaç Station, kalkıyor... is a sound installation that draws on the psychoacoustic illusion known as the Shepard tone. The work produces a train horn that emanates from beneath the staircase in the station’s cellar, sounding as if it is constantly setting into motion.

The sound carries the anticipation of a train approaching or about to depart; yet this movement is never completed. As visitors move through the corridors of the station, they encounter the tension of a train that feels as though it could depart at any moment, but never does.

In this installation, the sound of the train ceases to be a sign of transportation; instead, it becomes the echo of an interrupted line, a deferred movement, and a time suspended in the memory of the space. The station is no longer a structure through which trains arrive and pass, but the carrier of a sound whose departure remains forever suspended.

Karaağaç Garı’nın tarihinden hareketle şekillenen kalkıyor..., Shepard tonu olarak bilinen psikoakustik yanılsamadan yararlanan bir ses yerleştirmesidir. İş, garın mahzeninde, merdiven altından yayılan ve sürekli hareketleniyormuş gibi duyulan bir tren kornası üretir.

Ses, yaklaşan ya da birazdan yola çıkacak olan bir trenin beklentisini taşır; ancak bu hareket hiçbir zaman tamamlanmaz. Ziyaretçi, garın koridorlarında dolaşırken her an kalkacakmış gibi hissedilen ama hiçbir zaman kalkmayan bir trenin gerilimiyle karşılaşır.

Bu yerleştirmede tren sesi, ulaşımın işareti olmaktan çıkar; kesintiye uğramış bir hattın, ertelenmiş bir hareketin ve mekânın belleğinde asılı kalmış bir zamanın yankısına dönüşür. Gar, artık trenlerin gelip geçtiği bir yapı değil, kalkışı sonsuza dek askıda kalmış bir sesin taşıyıcısıdır.
